MODULE 6. Teaching in the physical and virtual classroom: Using GeoGebra as a hybrid learning environment
This unit will help you to:
- be aware of the chances and challenges that hybrid teaching with GeoGebra can offer
- be able to prepare material for hybrid situations all students can use
- be able to prepare material using various options from GeoGebra such as the 3D app and Classrooms
- In this module you will find two units.
In each unit you will find a short introduction, a video and additional readings and other recommended resources.
At the end of each unit an assignment and a self-reflective questions will help you to apply the lessons to your teaching practice. Have fun!
6.1. Exercises using virtual representations – Creating GeoGebra resources
Exercises that can be used offline and online can be useful. Such exercises – especially in STEAM education – can be created using the mathematics platform GeoGebra.
GeoGebra allows the creation of resources that can contain a variety of content including apps. Moreover, these resources can be shared and altered/improved by other lecturers. This helps to create content quickly and profit from good ideas from other lecturers.
But not only can resources and interactive apps be created, even small web pages can be done by creating a GeoGebra book that can contain resources a person created herself or that other people created.
This exercise will help to understand how to create GeoGebra resources, add GeoGebra apps and how to reuse and share them. These resources can be used for hybrid teaching and make sure that everyone learns about the same content using the same resources.

This information on how to create resources is called a GeoGebra book. It can contain a variety of created resources. Yours or the resources of other people.

Part 3
Assignment: Create a lesson plan as a GeoGebra resource
Create a 45 min lesson plan as a GeoGebra resource that can be used as a presentation for a scenario in person, virtual, and both at the same time. It should include:
- Texts
- Images
- A GeoGebra app
- It should be made public
Hint: First create a checklist of what to think about when creating a lesson such as: include some time in case of technological problems, provide resources not only for online OR offline presentation, test/try bandwidth, etc.
Reflection questions for Unit 6.1.
How can you make sure participants of both online and offline canals have access to the same learning resources?
Where can you get and alter already existing GeoGebra apps?
6.2. Creating and sharing material that can be used also for Augmented Reality
This module introduces the 3D app of GeoGebra. You can learn about how to use it for creating and sharing material that can be used also for Augmented Reality running on most mobile devices
STEAM education contains subjects in a combination. It does not for example mean mathematics but applied mathematics combined with for example informatics and/or other subjects. Tools that support these crossovers thus need to support multiple skills of students. GeoGebra needs skills used in engineering or informatics the least. Usually, designs by students also involve artistic decisions and often, especially with 3D modelling and 3D printing, also considerations from physics are part of the exercise.
In addition, GeoGebra supports sharing and modifying created apps and resources. This makes it a great tool to be used also in hybrid education.

Assignment: Create a 3D object and a GeoGebra Book
Create a 3D object such as a 3D maze following the instructions of this course. Download the GeoGebra 3D App to your mobile device and look at your 3D object using Augmented Reality.
Then create a GeoGebra Book using the given Book as an example and add a description of how you made the 3D object, how it can be accessed and create an app resource that can be turned into a GeoGebra Classroom.
Reflection question for Unit 6.2.
How do students/participants of your classroom perceive your book and Classroom app?
